A heavy rainfall coupled with a blood burst increased the water level in north-eastern state of Sikkim, which is usually prone to such heavy rains. The rise in the water was so rapid that the authorities had little time to evacuate. The remote area is located close to India’s border with Nepal.
Search operations underway
The Indian army in a statement said they have initiated search and rescue operations in the area. The army also said they also lost multiple vehicles to the flash floods.
