Al-Shabab claims attack on UAE military base

MOGADISHU, 11 Feb: Somalia-based Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organization Al-Shabab has claimed an attack on the UAE military base.

At least three Emirati troops have been killed, including a soldier from Bahrain, the Al-Arabiya news agency reported.

The UAE’s state-run WAM news agency identified the dead as a colonel, two warrant officers and a corporal.

The news agency further said the attack took place in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, but the full details are not yet known.

The Somali government condemned the terrorist attack and offered its condolences to the UAE.

Al-Shabab said in an online statement that they targeted the Emirate troops for their government’s support for the Somali military.

Al-Shabab identifies the UAE as an “enemy” of Islamic law as it supports the Somali government’s fight against terrorism.
