Google searches for “move to Canada” surged by 1,270% within 24 hours of East Coast polls closing Tuesday, with similar spikes for New Zealand (up nearly 2,000%) and Australia (up 820%), according to Google data.

A Google official noted that searches related to emigration reached record highs for these destinations by late Wednesday.

Though Google does not release exact figures, Immigration New Zealand reported around 25,000 new users from the U.S. on November 7, a sharp increase from 1,500 on the same day last year.

Immigration law firms are also seeing a surge in inquiries, with Canada’s Green and Spiegel law firm reporting new email inquiries nearly every half hour.

In online forums, such as Reddit’s “r/AmerExit,” users are sharing information about visa processes and international relocation, according to Reuters.

Why Are Americans Leaving The Country?

The trend reflects similar interest in moving abroad after Trump’s 2016 election.

This time, however, the increase follows a particularly polarizing campaign, with nearly 75% of voters feeling American democracy is at risk, according to Edison Research exit polls.

Concerns include potential shifts under a Trump administration on divisive topics like race, gender, education, climate change and reproductive rights.

Many, supporters of the losing democratic party, are voicing concerns about the conservative changes Donald Trump is going to make which they think are against their freedom.
