OTTAWA: The Canadian government has announced the purchase of 11 MQ9-B SkyGuardian drone from US manufacturers.
The $1.87 billion sale includes multiple Hellfire missiles, ground control stations, hangars, and technical support training.

Canada enhancing its military
The Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blaire said the purchase will enhance military capabilities of the Canadian armed forces amid an increasing volatile security situation.
The ministry said the drones will also be used for disaster and relief operations as wildfires are becoming more and more frequent.
Drones to be delivered by 2028
Highlighting the timeline, Mr. Blaire said the drones will be delivered by 2028 without disclosing the reason for a three-year gap.
The purchase will ensure Canada “has a modern, adaptable military that is prepared to respond to evolving and emerging security challenges.” Blaire said.
