TAIPEI: The Taiwanese Defense Ministry detected 43 Chinese warplanes circling the island.
37 out of 43 warplanes crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, known as the Davis line.
Taiwan’s response
The Taiwanese Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng said the island immediately dispatched fighter jets and activated the land-based missile system.
“ROC (Republic of China) Armed Forces have monitored the situation and tasked CAP aircraft, Navy vessels, and land-based missile systems to respond”, the defense ministry said on X, formerly Twitter.
Why is China doing so?
The Chinese military has crossed the median line several times in recent years.
The People’s Republic of China considers Taiwan as its sovereign territory and has repeatedly stressed the military option for reunification.
The Chinese attack against Taiwan is not very likely considering the US commitment to the Island and Chinese priorities.
