WASHINGTON, 1 April: Former UN climate chief Patricia Espinosa said that if former President Donald Trump wins the US election, it could blow global climate goals.
Limiting global warming to pre-industrial levels of 1.5 degrees is already proving difficult, and on the other hand, Trump’s anti-climate attitude will make a huge impact on the United States, Patricia said.
“I’m concerned because if we see climate regression in the U.S., that’s pretty alarming,” Espinosa said.
Although Trump’s approach in this regard is not clear, his party’s intentions in this regard are dangerous as his manifesto is to dismantle Biden’s climate policies.
Espinosa said that if we are not aligned with 1.5 degrees, and if we see a regression in temperature, this could pose great risks in the future.
“If this continues, the induction is going to bring more and more terrible scenarios until we get strong leadership,” Espinosa said.
