CAIRO, 18 Feb: The Wall Street Journal reported that Egypt is building walled enclosure ringed with high concrete walls along its border with Gaza that appears intended to house Palestinians fleeing a threatened Israeli assault on the southern city of Rafah.

Egypt has started building a massive mile-wide wall on the Gaza border to accommodate a million refugees expected to flee from the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian government fears a possible ground attack by Israel on Rafah, where refugees from all across Gaza have been sheltering amid Israel’s military campaign since October 7.

New satellite images taken by Maxar technology show that the entire area between Gaza and Egypt’s borders has been bulldozed.

If the buffer zone, which stretches from the end of the Gaza border to the Mediterranean Sea, is completed, it will cover all of the Egypt- Rafah border.

According to CNN, the bulldozers were brought in on February 3, and the incubation work started on February 6.

The Sinai Foundation for Human Rights released a video of the construction, which claimed that the wall was 5 meters (16 ft) high.
