European countries are tightening border controls

BRUSSELS: Various countries in the European Union have implemented strict border controls amid a surge in legal and illegal immigrants.

The EU said in a statement that the measure was the last resort to curb legal and illegal arrivals by migrants as it threatens internal security in the region.

According to the European news agency “Europe news room”, the curbs aim to reduce the risk of deterioration of law and order.

Countries that have reinstated border controls

The countries which have implemented stricter border controls include Australia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia, France, and Slovenia.

Non-EU members include Finland, which accused Russia of intentionally transporting a high amount of migrants to the border.
