TEHRAN, 15 March: According to a report published by The Telegraph on Thursday, Iran is using European ports to supply weapons to Hezbollah.
According to the report, the weapons supplied to Hezbollah included missiles and bombs used to attack Israel and were received from ships that passed through ports in Spain, Belgium and Italy.
Antwerp, Valencia and Ravenna are among the major ports through which Iran ships weapons to Latakia in Syria and then to Lebanon.
The alleged arms smuggling by Iran was due to Israeli attacks on Iranian installations in Syria and Lebanon, leading Iran to adopt this alternative, intelligence sources told The Telegraph.
Israel-based intelligence analyst Ronin Solomon told The Telegraph that Iran’s use of alternative routes for arms trafficking is intended to provide legitimacy to arms cargoes and divert attention from direct supplies.
Europe’s ports are very large and busy because they are not subject to as much scrutiny as smaller ports, and this is what Iran has cashed in on for its arms trafficking, Israeli intelligence sources told The Telegraph.
