MALE: The new President of Maldives has reaffirmed his commitment to expelling Indian troops stationed in the country.

During his first speech as President, Mohamed Muizzu said he would retain relationships with all countries, but it wouldn’t come at the cost of compromise on sovereignty.

Sovereignty Will Be Drawn Clearly

Mohamed Muizzu said he would draw clear lines of sovereignty, and foreign troops will have to go. “Lines of independence and sovereignty will be drawn clearly.

“The foreign military presence will be removed,” he said. He also stressed having good trade relations with all countries.

Muizzu Rejects Pro-China Label

Muizzu has been labeled as pro-China by the opposition, but he has categorically rejected the assertion.

“I am not pro any country except Maldives,” he said in his interview with Bloomberg TV in October.
