Pakistan has no interest in block politics, COAS Munir says

WASHINGTON/RAWALPINDI: In his meeting with US think tanks in Washington, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir said Pakistan has no interest in bloc politics.

Pakistan’s top military commander said Pakistan seeks to engage with the world and become a hub of connectivity and a doorway to Central Asia and beyond.

The Pakistan military’s media wing ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) said the Chief candidly exchanged views with US think tanks and presented Pakistan’s perspective on regional issues.

“The COAS said Pakistan is a country of consequence both from geopolitical and geoeconomic perspectives and wishes to develop itself as a hub of connectivity and a gateway to Central Asia and beyond,” ISPR said.

Mr. Asim also highlighted India’s illegal abrogation of the special status given to Kashmir in the past seven decades.

“Kashmir is an internationally accepted dispute, and no unilateral action can alter the nature of this dispute against the wishes of millions of people of the area,” he said.

he COAS visit is crucial amid increasing terrorist attacks on the western border with Afghanistan that have killed hundreds of Pakistani armed forces in months.
