Putin gave Kim Jong Un a Russian-made car as a show of friendship

MOSCOW, 20 Feb: Russian President Vladamir Putin has gifted a Russian-made car to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

North Korean state-owned news agency reported that the gift underlines the personal friendship between the two leaders.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) didn’t provide further details about what kind of vehicle it was or how it was shipped.

Experts believe that supplying cars to North Korea could violate a United Nations resolution that bans supplying luxury items to North Korea in an attempt to pressure it to abandon its nuclear weapons. Reports suggest that the car was transferred to North Korea to Kim’s top aides, including his sister Kim Yo Jong, on February 18.

“Kim Yo Jong courteously conveyed Kim Jong Un’s thanks to Putin to the Russian side, saying that the gift serves as a clear demonstration of the special personal relations between the top leaders of the DPRK and Russia and as the best one,” KCNA said.

Both leaders are isolated on international stage and have forged closer ties since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
