WASHINGTON, 19 Feb: US congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has called on her supporters to reject Joe Biden in the primary.
Rashida Tlaib uploaded a video of herself on X, formerly Twitter, where she urged fellow democrat voters to ditch Biden in the state’s presidential primary election scheduled to take place in late February.
Tlaib’s staunch opposition to Biden grew recently after Biden’s all-out military and diplomatic support to Israel’s conduct in its war against Hamas.
“It is important … to not only march against the genocide, not only make sure that we’re calling our members of Congres”, Tlaib, the only American-Palestinian congresswoman, said in the video.
The congresswoman’s message echoed the calls of Listen to Michigan, whose campaign manager is Tlaib’s sister, Layla Elabed.
Tlaib’s latest video announcement has received mixed responses on X with some calling her antisemitic and hate preacher.
With the 81-year-old president facing increasing pressure over his handling of Israel’s military strikes in Gaza, as well as scrutiny over his age, Arab and Muslim Americans across multiple swing states – including Michigan – have organized campaigns under the slogan #AbandonBiden.
