New Delhi was world's most polluted capital

NEW DELHI, 20 March: According to the Swiss Air Quality Monitoring Group, Delhi was the world’s most polluted capital city in 2023.

IQAir said India was also ranked as the third most polluted country in the world after its neighbors Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The country’s air situation has been steadily deteriorating since 2022, and at that time, the country was ranked eighth in terms of pollution.

Experts say the country’s climate is deteriorating due to rapid industrialization and a lack of environmental laws and their implementation.

India has made a lot of progress over the past decades, but the unregulated industrial program is a testimony that there is no proper regulatory system for the industries, and neither are the industrialists following these rules.

Rapid construction is also a cause of air pollution. According to IQAir report, India has a PM ratio of 2.5, and to cause diseases, this needs to be 54.4 micrograms.

Air containing 12 or 15 micrograms of cubic 2.5 pm is considered healthy, while 35 micrograms or above is hazardous to health.

Delhi’s air has been worse than the rest of India with 2.5 PM at 97.7 micrograms per cubic meter, which is very toxic to health.

The worst air pollution in Delhi is caused by crop burning, emissions from factories and vehicles, low wind speed and bursting of firecrackers during festivities.
