Russia & China to build a nuclear power plant on the moon

MOSCOW, 6 March: Russia and China are considering installing a nuclear power plant on the moon in 2033-35, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, said on Tuesday.

Former Deputy Defense Minister Borissov said Russia and China are working together on the lunar program and Moscow will contribute its nuclear space energy capabilities to it.

“We are seriously thinking of setting up a nuclear power unit on the moon by 233-35 with our Chinese friends,” Borissov said.

Solar panels may not provide more and more efficient electricity in the future, but nuclear energy can, he said. Borisov also talked about Russian plans to build a nuclear cargo spaceship.

“We’re working on building a really big space tugboat,” Borissov said.

It will be a large spaceship that will be built with the help of a nuclear reactor and high power turbines.

It will be capable of transporting large cargoes from one orbit to another, collecting space data and many other tasks.

Borisov said that China and Russia will send joint crewed missions to the moon with China in the future and also build a lunar base.
