MOSCOW, March 27: Russian oil companies are facing delays in crude oil and gas payments as banks in China, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates have become cautious due to US sanctions, Reuters said.
The Kremlin is facing financial difficulties due to delays in payments as allied countries are fearing the consequences of US sanctions.
According to Reuters eight banking sources, banks in China, Turkey and the Emirates may delay or even cancel money transfers due to restrictions.
Banks have instructed their customers to remain vigilant due to the restrictions and not to include any person on the US SDN (Specially Designated Nationals) list in the money transfer or process.
Sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity that Emirates’ Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) and Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) have suspended several accounts linked to Russian oil businesses.
The money is still being processed at Emirates Banks, Turkey’s Ziarat and Vakif Bank, and Bank of China, but that could take weeks or months, the four sources said.
