MOSCOW, 7 March: The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, visited Russia to discuss the threat posed by the war in Ukraine to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Russian news agency IRA reported.

Grossi announced his visit at a meeting of the 35-nation board of governors in Vienna on Monday. According to the Kremlin, Putin will meet with Grosi and the nature of this issue will be discussed in this meeting.

Grossi visited Ukraine in February and toured the Russian-captured Zaporizhzhya power plant to address the wartime nuclear plant’s misuse and destruction.

He also met Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky and urged talks between the two parties to safeguard the nuclear power plant.

Grossi said he would also discuss technical issues related to the power plant with Russian officials.

The plant has suffered eight losses of off-site power since the seizure, forcing it to rely on emergency diesel generators temporarily, and it continues to face challenges related to staffing, the Associated Press reported.
