MOSCOW: Russian parents are having their gay children abducted via gangs and are sending them to conversion therapy centers for treatment.
The Washington Post report suggests that children are forcefully taken to conversion therapy centers where they are held for extended periods to be treated.
The reports surfaced amid a brutal crackdown on the LGBT community in Russia after the Supreme Court labelled the group as an “extremist organization”.
Survivor Testimonies
According to the Washington Post’s report, the LGBT survivors are fleeing Russia to protect themselves from the crackdown.
Survivors have testified being kept in high concrete walls designed for criminals and drug addicts.
“Many were tricked or abducted, then held for months. They recounted being beaten, humiliated or forced to read out confessions that they were destructive and selfish because of their “addiction” to their sexual or gender identity”, the report mentioned.

Russia is becoming more conservative
Russian President Vladimir Putin has accelerated his bid to make his country more conservative to win over the global south against his war in Ukraine, the Washington Post reported.
On the other hand, Putin also considers liberal values to be a security threat to the family and social structure of Russian society.
