US base in Iraq under attack

BAGHDAD: US forces stationed in Iraq came under attack after Iran vowed to retaliate against Israel’s attack in Syria.

Reports suggest that Iranian-backed terrorist groups fired ballistic missiles targeting al-Assad Airbase in Western Iraq.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said some of the projectiles were intercepted by the air defense systems but others impacted the base.

“Multiple ballistic missiles and rockets were launched by Iranian-backed militants in western Iraq targeting al-Assad Airbase,” CENTCOM said on X, formerly Twitter.

“Most of the missiles were intercepted by the base’s air defense systems while others impacted on the base. Damage assessments are ongoing,” the statement continued.

The strikes came a day after Iran’s top spy general was assassinated in an airstrike in Damascus.

Iran blamed Israel and vowed to retaliate and take revenge for the assassination of Mohammad Amin Samadi, IRGC’s top general.
