WASHINGTON: The US has proposed to use 22 million acres of public land for solar energy transition.

The Guardian environment reporter Oliver Milman wrote in his report that the Bureau of Land Management has proposed to utilize the public land to transition to solar clean energy in the western US.

The 22 million milestone is a big figure as the United States is only using 34,000 acres of bureau land for solar energy currently.

BLM said that the proposed land is part of a new energy plan of the administration to accelerate solar energy in the US west.

The project will give the US “maximum flexibility” to meet climate goals, the guardian reported.

Opposition to the plane

The report said that the plan “has unsettled some residents who oppose solar farms in their communities or on farmland, as well as environmentalists who fret over the fate of species such as the desert tortoise as seemingly empty habitat is upended into a new, mirrored, reality”.
