WASHINGTON: The United States conducted a strike against Iranian-backed militias in Syria. Two Air Force’s F-15 fighters struck a weapons storage facility in eastern Syria.

The US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the attack was a self-defense measure against increasing attacks on American troops in Syria and Iraq.

US Defense Secretary’s statement

The US Defense Secretary said the raid was conducted to ensure the safety of Americans’ lives.

The statement said, “The president has no higher priority than the safety of US personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel and its interests.”

Attacks against US troops

The US and coalition troops have come under multiple terrorist attacks in Syria and Iraq.

US troops have been targeted with drones recently, but no injuries have been reported so far. Lloyd Austin also said the recent attack against Iranian-backed militia has nothing to do with the Middle East crisis.
