WASHINGTON: The US military targeted Iranian-backed forces in Syria, the Pentagon said.

The strikes targeted Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other militias involved in attacking US bases in Syria.

The US and coalition forces have seen a huge surge in attacks against their military installations in Iraq and Syria.

Total 21 US forces injured

According to a Reuters report, at least 21 US troops have been injured so far in the recent attacks.

The US has accused the Iranian-backed militia of facilitating the attacks. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the strikes were ordered by the US President Joe Biden.

US vows to carry out attacks

Austin said they will not hesitate to carry out strikes against those who target US troops.

“If attacks by Iran’s proxies against U.S. forces continue, we will not hesitate to take further necessary measures to protect our people,” the statement said.
