Cost of Vadhavan Port
Approved by the cabinet in June 2024, the all-weather, deep-draft Vadhavan Port, located close to the Gujarat border, will cost Rs 76,220 crore. JNPA and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) will jointly own the company, holding 74% and 26% of the equity, respectively. This partnership marks a crucial turning point in India’s port development strategy, as it is the first time the federal government and a state government have shared equity in a large-scale port project.

Vadhavan Port’s Capacity
The Vadhavan Port will be capable of handling some of the largest cargo ships in the world, with the capacity to hold 24,000 20-foot containers. This impressive capability positions it to become one of the top 10 container ports globally.
Date of Vadhavan Port’s Completion
Reclaiming 1,448 hectares of sea land will be used to create the Vadhavan Port, which is scheduled to open in 2030. This reclamation will avoid the need for land acquisition. The project will soon be the subject of tenders, moving it one step closer to realization.
