Xi Jinping arrives in US ahead of summit with Joe Biden

WASHINGTON: Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in the United States ahead of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Reuters reported.

President Xi will meet US President Joe Biden to restore bilateral trade and regular communications.

First time in 6 years

The Chinese President has arrived in the US for the first time in six years. Both leaders are expected to meet on Wednesday morning (US time) to discuss improving the relationship, specifically including military-to-military contacts. “We’re not trying to decouple from China.

What we’re trying to do is change the relationship for the better,” Biden told reporters before leaving the White House.

Protests are expected

Protesters have already gathered on the route that the Chinese President will take to reach the hotel.

Al-Jazeera reported that both pro-China and anti-China protesters were present outside the hotel. “Outside the hotel, several hundred Beijing supporters waved US and Chinese flags,” the report mentioned.
