KYIV, 30 March: In an interview with the Washington Post on March 29, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disagreed with the US response to attacks on Russian oil facilities and said that Ukraine has the right to use weapons to defend itself.
Despite US reservations, Zelensky said targeting Russian oil refineries is an effective military strategy, and we have ensured that these strikes meet NATO standards.
The Financial Times recently reported that US has urged Ukraine to refrain from targeting Tamros oil facilities as it would affect the global oil market.
“The United States did not give us a positive response to this,” Zelensky said in response to a question about America’s warning.
“We used our drones. Nobody can say to us you can’t,” Zelensky said.
Zelenskiy’s statement came at a time when the Ukrainian military continued to target Russian oil facilities, and according to Bloomberg, the Ukrainian military successfully targeted 12 Russian oil refineries on March 17, which was 12 percent of Russia’s oil facilities.
Ukraine has considered these attacks as a response to Russia’s military targeting critical Ukraine’s infrastructure, including the Zoporizhia nuclear reactor.
